The Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase area is more than 30 square miles, with five Metro Stations on the Red Line and is the largest employment center in Montgomery County.

Location
Bethesda-Chevy Chase Business District, located within 10 miles of the U.S. Capitol, borders the District of Columbia on the south, the Potomac River on the west, Rock Creek Park on the east, and stretches north almost into the city of Rockville.

Marketplace
Bethesda-Chevy Chase is the leading global center of healing and the home of numerous major federal complexes: National Naval Medical Center, the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, National Institutes of Health and National Library of Medicine, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Rock Creek and Glen Echo Parks. It is also the home of many research and development firms offering economic, marketing and scientific research and private sector corporate headquarters: Marriott Corporation, the Lockheed Martin Corporation, GEICO, and COMSAT. A wide variety of smaller businesses and world class shopping centers, including four major shopping malls: Chevy Chase Pavilion, Montgomery Mall, Mazza Gallerie, and White Flint are frequented daily by thousands of residents and visitors. With the arrival many years ago of O'Donnell's, the restaurant and night life business has exploded into hundreds of diverse American and international restaurants, fast food franchises, delis and cafes. Clubs and after-dark diversions include nightly variety of live entertainment and music. Recreational and cultural activities abound with indoor and outdoor concert series, antiques and art galleries, an outdoor contemporary artwork and sculpture collection, movie theater complexes, country clubs, numerous private and public sports and health facilities. More than a third (2,993) of the County's guest rooms are available in eleven Bethesda-Chevy Chase hotels providing 2,363 rooms, convention, meeting, and banquet facilities as well as the 12 acre National 4-H Center offering lodging for 630 guests, a 550-seat auditorium and conference center.

The population of Bethesda-Chevy Chase totals 92,600 persons, including 24% under 18 years old, 58 % between 18-64 and 18% over 64, with a median household income of $119,390, according to the 2005 U.S Census Bureau Update Survey Data.

Bethesda-Chevy Chase has 62,949 residences, including 40,579 single family dwellings, 4,791 townhouses, and 20,471 apartment and condominium units. According to 1990, census figures the median dollar value of owner occupied single family homes is $428,900 and renter occupied units is $935.

Montgomery County Statistics

Montgomery County is Maryland’s most populous and affluent jurisdiction. Located 34 miles southwest of Baltimore, the County’s major business concentrations include the western I-270 corridor and the eastern Route 29 corridor. High technology enterprise, especially biotechnology and telecommunications, staffed by a highly trained workforce, is a primary economic activity. Nineteen major federal research and development agencies include the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Standards and Technology, Food and Drug Administration, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Business, health, technical and professional services, as well as retail and wholesale trade are growing industry sectors.
