Voice Your Concerns About New Parking Hours Requiring
Payment & Parking Rate Changes

The Montgomery County Council on May 16, 2007 approved a change in hours requiring payment in the Parking Lot Districts and a rate change in North Bethesda. Effective July 1, 2007, all the County Public Parking facilities in the Parking Lot Districts of Bethesda, Montgomery Hills, North Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton were to have the same hours requiring payment. Also, the parking rates for the North Bethesda TMD was to change. The new hours and parking rate changes are listed below.  Those affecting the B-CC community included charging for parking on all parking lots on Saturdays (previously free of charge). 

Due to strong opposition to these measures by members of the business community throughout Montgomery County, especially in Silver Spring and Bethesda, on July 10th a special resolution was proposed to the County Council by Councilmember Valerie Ervin (District 5) and co-sponsored by Councilmembers Roger Berliner (District 1), George Leventhal (At Large) and Marc Elrich (At Large).  This resolution can be found HERE.  Please note that the changes are indicated by brackets throughout the document.

The Chamber's Vice President of Economic Development, Patrick O'Neil (Lerch, Early & Brewer) will be testifying on behalf of the Chamber on the evening of Thursday, July 26th at 7:30 p.m., supporting the new resolution to revert all hours and fees back to the previous schedule.  We encourage all members to join the Chamber in voicing your concerns via emails, letters or testimony to the members of the County Council who have not co-sponsored this bill.  The full list of the County Council can be found HERE.  Thank you. 

Recommended New Parking Hours
Garages: 7am – 10pm Monday thru Friday
Surface Lots: 7am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday
On-Street: 9am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday

Each district were to have new hours for their respective facilities as follows:

Bethesda
Surface Lots 7am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday (New Hours)
Garages 7am – 10pm Monday thru Friday (The same current hours, no change!)
On-Street 9am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday (The same current hours, no change!)

North Bethesda
New Rates:
Short term Meters (3 hours or less)…………………. $0.60 per hour
Long Term Meters (More than 3 hours)…………….. $0.45 per hour
Parking Convenience Sticker (PCS)………………… $85.00 per month

New Hours:
On-street 7am – 7pm Monday - Saturday

Silver Spring/Montgomery Hills
Surface Lots 7am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday (New Hours)
Garages 7am – 10pm Monday thru Friday (New Hours)
On-street 9am – 10pm Monday thru Saturday (New Hours)
*Note: Garage 60 (Wayne Avenue and Ellsworth Avenue) and Garage 61 (Ellsworth Avenue and Roeder Road) hours to remain the same:
